Avatar Torrent Download – already?

Not surprisingly there already exists a bit-torrent version of Cameron’s dazzling fx flick, Avatar.  Surprisingly, it’s only a telesync version from a Romanian movie theater.  Fox and Cameron’s team have done a remarkable job of keeping the lid on the digital version of this eye candy.  Most movies are available in full screener resolution before it hits theaters.  If studios can turn out eye-popping effects on good scripts, Hollywood will reign and piracy will be less of a threat; it’s a lot harder to pirate the sensory immersion of a 3D movie theater experience.

Will 3D continue to take off?  I don’t think the 3D effect was essential to Avatar.  I can imagine enjoying it equally in 2D.  However, I will say that James Cameron was tastefully understated with the 3D effects.  Not much came jumping out of the screen.

Cameron insists on making all his future films in 3D.  As an aside, I hope Cameron doesn’t make the mistake of assuming that a character in 3D doesn’t necessarily have more depth.  That has to be written and acted.

Short Film!

Announcing the world premiere of the much anticipated short film, “The Rhythm of a Day.” Despite some idle chatter about Avatar’s special effects, the real industry insiders are excited about the awards potential of this film. Premiering globally on small screens everywhere, this film is taking audiences by storm. Take a moment to view what many critics are hailing as “genre-defining” and “monumental.”

Well, here’s our small but mighty film. If you like it, make a comment so that we make it to the final fifty! And then, of course, your vote will launch us into the limelight of the Judge’s Award.

Nikon’s “festival” is an interesting marketing ploy – designed to mobilize social networks and generate buzz about their brand and their cameras. I must say, my D90 has been a joy to play with.

Kick-ass and Bad Lieutenant

Nicholas Cage in his two best roles so far, both this year?

“For some reason I find it very refreshing that I can be proud of Nicholas Cage on the screen again. Nice to see him putting in effort in a great film once more. The entire cast was wonderful to watch, the standout of course being Chloe Moretz playing Hit Girl. Her dynamic with Cage is pure entertainment (in a twisted kind of way) to watch.” Slash Film

“One of my unabashed favourites from Telluride this year, the film walks a beautiful line between presumably fulfilling the expectations of a crime procedural and making room for Herzog’s utterly inspired weirdness. Cage is more than up to the task, delivering his best (and possibly only) performance since Adaptation (Spike Jonze, 2002). The film fits such an improbable space between conventional action film and unhinged caricature of the same that I am sadly anticipating its distribution and reception to be a bumpy ride.”  – Kate Rennebohm

If Kickass is anywhere as funny and weird as Bad Lieutenant, I look forward to it.  This just in from Slash Film.  Could anything be more shocking than shooting a little girl?
